June 2017 – Presidents Report

Category : Presidents Report

Hi Club Members,
Last month was a quiet month for club outings with bad weather on the days they were on. Not much we can do about that so hopefully this month will be better to us.

We have the club change over lunch to be held at Bungendore pub on Sunday 18th June starting at around 12 o’clock. I’m looking forward to catching up with club members for a quiet lunch on the day.

A big thanks to the committee members and club members for the last 12 months for their help and support in running the club and helping to organise club outing (that’s what makes it worthwhile). Also thanks to the club members for bringing the old cars out for outings around the area.
Cheers
Craig

March 2017 – President’s Report

Category : Presidents Report

Hi Club Members,

Last month social outing was held in Fyshwick, Coffee and tea held by Shannons at the transport sheds. The feedback by some of the club members was very positive and the amount of vehicles that turned out on the evening filled up the sheds mighty quick. Even the organisers (Shannons) were very happy with the amount of vehicles and support of car clubs on the evening. It’s always good to return the favour to them for the amount of sponsorship they provide for the car clubs and shows around the district.

This month we have Wheels on the 12th March from 9am to 3pm at the Treasury car park in Parkes.

On Saturday 1st of April I have organised with the FE-HR Holden club a visit to the Historical Fire Station from 10.30 am. It’s located on the corner of Canberra Av and Empire Circuit, Forrest.

Also the Goulburn swap meet is on Sunday 2nd April for anyone who is interested on a day out.

Cheers
Craig

February 2017 – President’s Report

Category : Presidents Report

Hi Club Members,
To finish off to what was a busy year again we had a combined Christmas party with the FE-HR club. It was enjoyed by all who turned up on the day with a special guest (Santa) turning up on the back of a ute with presents and lollies for the little kids and big kids too. We even had a chance to get a photo with Santa too.

At the end of last year was the 23rd AEHF Nationals at Mansfield in Victoria. We met at Hall on Tuesday 27th and headed straight to Mansfield. The next day was scrutineering followed by a welcome BBQ at the showground that evening. On Thursday was the Show N Shine which was held next to the Main Street which was a great place for owners & the public to see the display of the 173 entrants.

Other cars turning up on the day were parked on the side of the road. What a fantastic sight it was with all the old Holden’s taking over the township for the 5 days. That night we had a choice of lawn bowls or trivia if you wanted to participate. Friday was a poker and an observation run visiting places close by answering questions as well as drawing a card at each place we visited. At Goughs Bay it was very busy with water skiers. Kevington was an old style pub, been around for many years and very popular with campers in the summer and skiers in the winter. At Jamieson it was a small township as was Bonnie Doon.

That night was a Retro night, so if you wanted to go, you could dress up in your finest 40-50s custom with prizes to be won on the night. Saturday was optional driving events held at the show ground on the oval followed by the presentation night and New Year’s Eve party. A big night, there was a silent auction, a bidding auction, great meals and a trophies presentation. Well done to our club members who received trophies on the night. They were Barry Morschel and family (1stobservation run), Graham Pryce &Harry Rogers (1stmale slalom – stock grey – driving event), Kris Bailey (top ten, 1st mild custom), Joe Pasquariello (2nd modified street custom) & Basil Bilanenko (3rd improved stock).

Congratulations members.

It was a late night being New Year’s Eve. We saw the New Year in then headed back to the park ,before an early start in the morning for the trip home. Overall from the start on the 27th to when I got home I travelled 960 miles (1545 km). I personally had a great time, it was a great National, lovely place to visit and see. Well done to the Early Model Holden Club of Victoria. The next Nationals will be held at Murray Bridge in South Australia in 2018. To finish off, at the delegates meeting, Ian and Kel put a presentation together for the Canberra club to host the 25th Nationals at Cooma in 2020 which was accepted.

I went to the Summernats on the Friday 6th January and caught up with Ian Constantine and also ran into some of the FX FJ Holden club members of Victoria. It was a great day out with my iPad.

Sunday 22nd January was Scotty’s run down to the Cotter for a get together with the FE-HR club for a chin wag and a lunch. A great day out in fine weather.

This year, we are planning to have some different and exciting social outings, so if you have anything in mind, let us known and we will get it in the magazine.

Cheers

December 2016 – President’s Report

Category : Presidents Report

Hi Club Members,
Last month the club had some great outings. The swap meet at Queanbeyan was great with lots of stalls as usual and the display on the oval was really good too. Rob and Kerrin had their cars on show on the day.

On a different weekend Ian and I met up on the highway to drive to Goulburn for the car and bike show. We met up with Rob on the way as well as catching up with Neale Hunt. Barry Morschel made the trip from Moss Vale with his mate and a great day was had by all.

I heard that ‘Classic Yass’ was also a great event, well done to Tony for taking out a prize.

This month is certainly a busy time of the year. Firstly, we have a combined Christmas lunch with the FE/HR club on Sunday 4th December – hope to see a lot of members there. We also have the final check over of our cars before we drive to Mansfield for the Nationals. We will be meeting at Hall on 27th December at 7:00am for a 7:30 departure.

There is no club meeting in January but there is the Scotty’s run to the Cotter on the 22nd of January.

In late February I’m organising an outing to visit the Historical Fire Station with the FE-HR club also be joining us. The date is yet to be confirmed but I’ll send out a email of the date once known.

So to finish, on behalf of my family and myself I would like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. To those going away, drive safe and I look forward to catching up in the New Year.

Cheers
Craig

October 2016 – President’s Report

Category : Presidents Report

Hi Club Members,

Last month we had a special outing for a special cause – it was the Super Heroes Classic Cruise for Camp Quality.

There were cars, motorbikes and an old Dodge truck out o the day.

We left Mawson fields and cruised through Tuggeranong, past Hume, around the city and back through Woden.

We then headed back towards the city before finishing up at the car park to the Treasury building for a bit of a show n’ shine and a bite to eat. What a great morning it was and the club turn out was really good as well.

They are going to try and make it an annual event which we will have to mark on our tour calendar if it comes together. Just to see the smiles on the kids faces was priceless.

One thing that caught my eye on the day was a sign they used that said “Laughter is the best medicine.” How true is that?

This month, the outing is Marques in the Parks at Belconnen on Sunday 30th October.

Hope to see you all there.

Cheers,

Craig
